Florence & Ludlow Back to Normal Paper Bag Production After Power Outages

Wed, Sep 17 2008 4:21 PM

Paper bags are back on track.  The Florence and Ludlow facilities of Duro Standard Products were recently impacted by a power outage caused by high winds attributed to Hurricane Ike that affected the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area on Sunday, September 14. More than a million people were without power in the corridor stretching from Louisville, KY to Columbus, OH. The Ludlow office and the Florence office and manufacturing facilities were without power until late afternoon on Tuesday, September 16.

A team of Duro associates went to work immediately to address and solve the problem and to ensure that customers were not negatively impacted. Critical business systems were up and running on generator power at both Ludlow and Florence by early Monday morning. Order entry and customer service were on line quickly to ensure customer orders were processed. Shipping of paper bags including the famous shopping bags from the Florence Plant occurred under artificial light with the hum of generators in the background. Because the length of the outage was unknown, the operations team made plans to shift necessary production to one of Duro’s seven other manufacturing facilities. The Company’s disaster recovery plans were in place and effective. The Florence Plant was back to normal production on third shift Tuesday evening; just hours after power had been restored.

Duro is committed to be the leading provider of paper bags, shopping bags, and sacks for grocery store, mass merchant, and independent retailers throughout the United States and our associates will do what is necessary to serve our customers.
