Tolleson, AZ - Duro Bag Mfg. Co. is proud to announce that Cary Edwards, Plant Manager, of Duro’s manufacturing plant in Tolleson, AZ has been nominated by the Maricopa County (AZ) Air Quality Department for the Air Quality Honor Roll.
The Air Quality Honor Roll was created in an effort to identify regulated entities and/or individuals who go above and beyond meeting air quality rules and regulations. Qualifying companies are found during inspections conducted by the Maricopa County Air Quality Department.
Although the Tolleson branch practices many ways to give back to the earth, the characteristic that caught the attention of the Air Quality Inspector was the use of corn starch in lieu of solvent-based glues. Corn starch contains no volatile organic compounds [VOCs], which are harmful smog-forming compounds.
“We make every effort to reduce our environmental footprint,” said Edwards. “The paper bag making process is already pretty environmentally friendly but Duro is a good citizen and we always strive to take it to the next level.”
Edwards explained that the Tolleson branch has also worked with their ink suppliers and paper mill on development of greener products. By changing some additives, the inks now used also contain no VOC’s. Duro worked hand in hand with the paper mill to develop the 100% recycled paper used in the 100% Recycled Paper Handle Bag, which is exclusive in North America to Duro Bag.
“Duro Bags is doing their part to keep the Valley’s air clean and healthy to breathe. They are a positive example for others to follow,” said Robert Kard, Director of the Maricopa County Air Quality Department. “If everyone took such actions to reduce their emissions of air pollutants, our air quality would only improve.”
Company-wide Duro is committed to the protection of the earth. Through recycling and the promotion of paper as a renewable sustainable resource, Duro works to fulfill this promise. Two simple ways they do this is recycling 100% of the Kraft and bleached paper waste from the production process and making committed efforts towards using recycled paper in the making of the bags. In addition, Duro is dedicated to helping their customers buy products which help to reduce greenhouse gases, reduce solid waste and boost energy efficiency by using sustainable bag products.
