Duro helps spread environmental message in Europe

Duro Bag Manufacturing Company is committed to environmental practices, not just at all branches within the US but overseas as well.

The Polish division of Duro Bag Manufacturing Company, Polska, recently participated in several events aimed at preserving the earth.

A conference was held in April called Sustainable “Management of Energy and Wastes in View of Climate Change”. The goal of the conference was to bring together representatives of nongovernmental organizations, researchers, students, and entrepreneurs to spread information of environmental protection technologies, exchange information and transfer knowledge between regions.

Attendance was estimated at between 5,000 and 6,000 people from Poznan and surrounding areas.

Then on June 5, 2008, which is World Environmental Day, the City of Poznan, Poland, held an education fair called “The Day of Solidarity with the Environment for the Young and Old”. At the fair Duro distributed about 5,000 ecological handle shopping bags to all attendees.

The fair even included a parade in the streets of Poznan to create awareness for energy conservation and sustainable waste management.

Duro Bag Mfg. Co Polska received special recognition from the Poznan City Hall’s EPA that stated (translation):

“We the Science and Environment Protection Association City Hall in Poznań and European Society of Ecodevelopment take this special opportunity for special thanks to DURO Bag Mfg. Co. Polska for sponsoring of Second World Environment Protection Day in Poznań based on the general project ‘Our Planet - Our Home’.

“This project is based on cooperation with Academic, Environment and Science Societies - Climate Changes.

“Your sponsorship contributed to promotion of ecological and environmental rules and subject and allowed to make it more popular and useful.”

Duro Bag Manufacturing Co. Donates $5,000 to Red Cross for Local Tornado Victims

When a killer tornado barreled through much of the southern United States on February 5, it included Jackson, Tennessee in its path. This powerful tornado took 31 lives in Tennessee and left injuries, destruction and homelessness in its wake.

Although Duro’s manufacturing plant in Jackson was left unscathed, many employee’s lives were affected.

To help with the local relief effort, Duro presented a check for $5,000, as well as $603.15 raised by employees, to the American Red Cross. The employees also collected non perishable goods to accompany this donation. The Red Cross has earmarked this donation to go directly to the Jackson Tornado Relief Fund, to help provide support to the people of Jackson and the surrounding 11 counties that were affected by this deadly tornado.

“At Duro, our people are our family,” said Charlie Shor, President of Duro Bag Mfg “When something like this comes along we do all we can to take care of them as well as their neighbors.”

Duro Bag Manufacturing Company’s 100% Recycled Paper Handle Bag will be featured at the 2008 Home Products Expo at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center Friday, February 8 through Sunday, February 10.
